Description: 

Postdoctoral position is available in the Wilson lab in Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral research researcher who is interested in how virus-host interactions affect virulence and transmissibility. Our lab's main research interests are positive-stranded RNA virus host-virus interactions, such as SARS-CoV-2, and the rapid identification and characterization of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOC). The successful applicant will be in charge of developing and analysing SARS-CoV-2 molecular clones, as well as using virological techniques to examine mutant viruses and find changes that affect VOC pathogenesis and transmissibility. This will entail both individual and group work, as well as participation in joint projects. This study is a cooperation between Drs. Wilson and Flazarnao's labs, and it is supported by CoVaRR-Net. CoVaRR-Net membership opens up chances for interaction and collaboration with other labs.


Qualifications: 

A recent Ph.D. in Virology is required, as well as publications in reputable scientific journals. Exceptional molecular virology, molecular biology, and/or cell biology expertise are required. Excellent written and oral English communication skills. Applicants must be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and will be expected to assist undergraduate and graduate students in the lab with their research. Experience with Biosafety Level 3 pathogens is preferred but not required.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Postdoctoral Fellows are entitled to benefits and vacations as outlined in the existing collective bargaining agreements.
