Description

The University of North Carolina School of Medicine has a long history of quality and compassion. Our goal is to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others we assist. We do it through demonstrating leadership and excellence in the interconnected fields of health care, education, and research. We aim to foster teacher, staff, and learner growth in a diverse, respectful environment where our colleagues display professionalism, improve learning, and build personal and professional sustainability. Through close collaboration and a commitment to service, we maximise our engagement with the UNC Health System.

Our goal is to become the nation's top public medical school. We are ranked 2nd in primary care education among all US medical schools, and 5th in NIH research funding among public institutions. In terms of NIH research funding, our Allied Health Department has five top-ranked divisions and 18 top-ranked clinical and basic scientific departments.

Main Purpose

Our goal is to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others we work with. We do it through demonstrating leadership and excellence in the interconnected fields of health care, education, and research.

We will promote health and deliver excellent clinical care while continuing to reach out to underrepresented people and decreasing health inequities in North Carolina and beyond.
Education: By supporting learning within new curriculum and team-oriented interprofessional education, we will prepare tomorrow's health care workers and biomedical researchers. To build a socially responsible, highly competent workforce, we will cultivate exceptional teaching and research faculty, as well as recruit outstanding students and trainees from a wide range of backgrounds.
Research: We will create and support a diverse set of excellent health-related research programmes, facilities, and services. To encourage exceptional research, we will provide infrastructure and opportunity for collaboration among disciplines both within and outside of our University. Programs in fundamental, translational, mechanistic, and population research will be supported.
