This postdoctoral role will contribute to the UNSW Nuclear Innovation Centre (UNIC) SocioTechnical nuclear Systems research program. You will work in a close-knit team of experts from UNSW Law, Engineering and Canberra faculties, as well with as key international research partners, on the sociotechnical aspects of nuclear technologies and their lifecycles.
A Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level A) is expected to contribute towards the research effort of UNSW and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to their particular field of research. This role will be based in the School of Science at UNSW Canberra.
The position reports to Associate Professor Elizabeth Williams at UNSW School of Science and has no direct reports.
Who You Are (skills and experience):
- A PhD in nuclear science, human-computer interaction, system sciences, systems engineering, design engineering, sociology, science communication or other relevant discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Evidence of, or demonstrated interest in, engagement in cross-disciplinary collaboration and scholarship.
- Demonstrated experience with qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods research approaches.
- Experience with, or willingness to develop skills in, computational approaches to qualitative or quantitative data analysis.
- Proven commitment to proactively keep up to date with discipline knowledges and developments relevant to the research project(s).
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high-quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.

The School of Psychology at UNSW is the leading Psychology school in Australia. The Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) is expected to contribute towards the research effort of UNSW and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to their particular field of research. This role contributes to the research project “Improving mental health outcomes through parent and teacher engagement in school-based early intervention” in partnership with Sydney Catholic Schools. This project aims to evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of school-adapted parent training intervention, matched to the individual needs of young children with disruptive behaviour problems, delivered within a Catholic school setting in South West Sydney. This position is based at the University of NSW in the School of Psychology, however the Postdoctoral Fellow will be required to travel regularly to South West Sydney.
The Postdoctoral Fellow is responsible for overseeing day-to-day work of project staff, acting as a key coordinator for the project and undertaking typical research activities including data management & analysis and supporting the dissemination of research outcomes.
About the role
- LEVEL A - $118k - $126k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed Term – 2.5 years (to July 2029)
- Part time (17.5 hours)
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
- Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research with a focus to enhance the quality of research outcomes in the discipline area.
- Conduct research (as per the norms of the discipline) and/or enable research teams to create scholarly output that is recognised by peers. This will include acting as a key coordinator for the trial, ensuring adherence to trial protocols and that project milestones and outcomes are met.
- Undertake specific research project/s under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to development of research activities.
- Support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets including the preparation and submission of reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Undertake discipline-appropriate research activities, e.g. surveys, literature reviews, data gathering and/or recording of results using appropriate research methods.
- Participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required.
- Assist with the supervision of research students in the research area where required.
- Develop and refine relevant study materials in accordance with International Council for Harmonisation Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice, the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) framework, regulatory guidelines, and study objectives.
- Develop and maintain well-organised, efficient systems of scheduling, communication, file organisation and documentation of both meetings and study procedures and train project staff in their use. Embed these systems into day-to-day research operations to ensure high quality, compliant, and consistent data collection.
- Monitor adverse events and ensure they are properly documented and reported to the Sponsor(s) and Ethics Committee(s) as appropriate.
- Regularly travel to trial sites to perform training, on-site monitoring and coordination duties.
- Develop effective working relationships with and regularly liaise with multiple educational and other stakeholders and media outlets, and act as the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit grant, ethics and governance applications.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
- A PhD in Psychology with AHPRA endorsement as a clinical, educational, or developmental psychologist.
- Demonstrated capacity for high-quality research, as evidenced by a strong track record relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated experience in managing longitudinal research studies, clinical outcome, and/or randomised controlled research trials in clinical psychology.
- Demonstrated research coordination experience, including developing protocols, data management systems, governance, monitoring, and reporting.
- Excellent organisational skills, including an ability to undertake a range of diverse tasks, to work independently, accurately, and with attention to detail and to deliver high quality work on time.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and levels of seniority.
- Experience with research data management and statistical analysis using statistical software (SPSS).
- Demonstrated and applied knowledge/understanding of HREC and regulatory applications e.g. GCP and reporting for clinical trials.
- Demonstrated skills in project management, statistical software packages (eg. SPSS, R, MPlus) and statistical analysis.
- Bilingual capability in Arabic and English is highly desirable, particularly to support engagement with Arabic-speaking children and families.
- Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Details of the role
A Post-Doctoral Fellow (Level A) is expected to contribute to the research effort of UNSW by undertaking laboratory-based and translational cancer research, developing research expertise through defined projects, and supporting the translation of discoveries into clinical applications.
The position will contribute to a research project focused on developing nanomedicine-based RNA therapies for pancreatic cancer and lung cancer preclinical models. The role will involve molecular and cellular biology, synthesising nanoparticles, biomarker discovery, target validation, therapeutic assessment in preclinical cell culture models and animal models, and the design, execution, analysis and interpretation of preclinical and translational cancer studies.
As an early-career researcher, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will be expected to maintain high-quality experimental records, contribute to research outputs and funding-related activities, and build collaborative relationships with clinicians, consumers, researchers and industry partners to support the translation of research findings.
The Post-Doctoral Fellow reports to Professor Phoebe Phillips the Head of the Pancreatic Cancer Translational Research Group whose research program spans from cell biology discoveries, preclinical development of new therapeutics all the way to a current Phase-2 clinical trial and embedding correlative science into our precision medicine trials program and has no direct reports.
