The Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management (iwb) at the Technical University of Munich is one of the largest production engineering institutes in Germany. The main topics include the areas of production and logistics, machine tools, assembly technology and robotics, manufacturing technology and joining and cutting technology. The iwb's scientific staff work in these subject areas in research, teaching and industry transfer with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. The research area "Data Analytics in Production Management" focuses on improving the solution quality of industrial problems in the context of production management through the use of mathematical optimization methods as well as data analytics and artificial intelligence.
As part of the research project, new methods and tools to support the planning of purchasing processes in global production and supplier networks are to be developed and then tested in an industrial environment.
