The project is funded by the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and has a collaboration with The University of Texas at Sant Antonio, USA. The project will run at the College of Information Technology (CIT), United Arab Emirates University. This project aims to analyze IoT network traffic to identify traffic characteristics, understand device behavior, and improve IoT security solutions in several dimensions. The outcomes of the traffic analysis will generate new knowledge about network and device behaviors under different circumstances, for example, device behavior in a normal situation and under attacks. Furthermore, the outcomes will help the device profiling operation and support the device identification process. Later, the results of this project can be combined with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for developing innovative security solutions or improving the existing security measures. The successful candidate will work closely with the project’s PI and Co-PI to implement the research plan and supervise research assistants and possibly Ph.D. students. With the main campus in Al Ain, UAEU has been operating since 1977. The College of Business and Economics offers an English-medium education encompassing five undergraduate programs, three post-graduate programs and 82 faculty from 34 different countries. In 2000, UAEU was the first University in the region to achieve AACSB accreditation. --Subject-- Car sharing is a concept that allows individuals to borrow cars on a short-term basis from a designated area or parking station, for a rental rate charged by the time or the distance driven. Many car sharing programs, such as ZipCar in London, involve electric vehicles in their car sharing fleets. The development of electric car sharing programs in densely populated cities may have many positive impacts such as a reduced urban congestion, less greenhouse gas emissions and a better air quality.


The postdoctoral researcher will work within the scope of a research project dealing with the optimal design of electric car sharing systems. He/she will seek to propose various extensions of the current state of the art in order to improve the practical relevancy of the models and propose innovative solution methods. Examples include the consideration of models integrating strategic, tactical and operational decision levels as well as the development of stochastic programs taking into account uncertainties arising in practice. He/she will have to carry out numerical experiments using state-of-the-art optimization software as well as to develop new exact and/or heuristic solution approaches. --Environment-- The work will take place at the College of Business and Economics, UAE University, Al Ain, UAE. 12.  Postdoctoral Fellow in Plant Molecular Biology

Job Description The successful candidate will work as Post-Doc in the Abu Dhabi International Virtual Research Institute for Food Security in the Drylands. This institute features a comprehensive and highly interdisciplinary R&D program and provides an international collaboration platform for researchers and stakeholders of the public and private food and agricultural sector. The virtual research institute strives to generate knowledge and technological innovation in support of food security in the UAE and other arid environments of the world. As part of one of its research themes, the institute is aiming to investigate the interaction between crops and plant growth promoting endophytes native to arid environments. The candidate will be involved in this research by establishing in vitro collection of cultivable endophytic microorganisms from roots of natural plant communities in the UAE. He/she will screen the isolates for their ability to confer tolerance to heat, salinity or drought in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. In addition, microbial isolates will be screened for their ability to solubilize rockphosphate. The most promising strains will be further evaluated for their impact on performance of selected greenhouse crop species cultivated in organic growth substrates identified by other teams from the VRI project. The candidate will monitor genome-wide changes in plant gene transcription and deploy reverse genetic tests on plant mutants to unravel some physiological processes and signal transduction pathways underlying microbially induced heat or drought tolerance in plants. The position is for nine months with the option of extension on an annual basis.


Minimum Qualification PhD in Plant Science, Plant Molecular Biology, Genomics and Biosciences. Biotechnology or a related scientific discipline.
Preferred Qualification Highly motivated candidates with a strong academic track record, and relevant experience in plant Genomics and molecular biology and microbiology are especially encouraged to apply. The Post doc must have experience in new product development, recovery of bioactive compounds from food waste, edible films, extrusion technology and functional foods. Duties of the Post-Doc will include developing methods and optimising formulations for extruder based food products (for both human and animal consumption), optimising novel extraction methods for the recovery of bioactives from regionally important food waste, developing and improving formulations for novel, functional edible films and coatings. Significant input in the experimental design is expected. Significant input in dissemination of result through high quality research publication is expected. Significant input in the day-to-day supervision of 2/3 PhD students also employed through the grant is expected.


Preferred Qualification The candidate with PhD and post-PhD research in the area of Food waste and by-product utilization through novel strategies will be preferred. Evidence of experience in working in a multi-cultural setting is desirable. Excellent manuscript and project writing skills are highly required for this position.
