Postdoctoral Scholar – Research Associate (Molecular Biology/Genetics)

The Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a full-time fixed term Postdoctoral Scholar-Research Associate.


The Postdoctoral Scholar position will involve basic molecular biology, histology, microscopy, and animal husbandry in the process of studying brain tumors, as well as brain injury repair. The candidate must be able to perform cell culture, qPCR, western immunoblotting, immunohistochemical staining, light and fluorescence microscopy, fluorescence associated cell sorting, basic rodent surgical procedures, and related techniques. Looking for someone with expertise in molecular biology (including virus infection, qPCR and western blotting) and mammalian cell culture. The candidate must have proficient communication skills, knowledge with a variety of computer programs for word processing, statistics, and image analysis. Requires Ph.D. with laboratory experience. Preference will be given to candidates with prior first author manuscripts. The experience offers opportunity for involvement in very successful project with significant preliminary data. Notably, multiple prior laboratory staff have published extensively and gone on to very successful graduate and medical school, medical residency, and biotechnology firm positions.


Salary range:

The annual base salary range for this position is $64,480 - $67,080. 3+ years of experience with a strong record of accomplishments and project experience in molecular biology, cell culture, epigenetic models, and rodent models.
A strong background and/or prior hands-on experience in experimental biology is highly desirable.
Good oral and written communication skills in English.

A Postdoctoral Scholar – Research Associate position is available to study molecular signaling mechanisms of protein methylation in craniofacial and cardiac development in the Xu lab at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California.


The project will utilize multidisciplinary approaches including mouse genetics, imaging, primary cell culture, epigenetic and multi-Omics approaches. Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a recent Ph.D. or M.D. degree, preferably trained in the developmental biology field. Previous experience in genetic mouse models is a requirement. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated. The Lyden laboratory is seeking a Postdoc Scholar Research Associate with a PhD in neuroscience, cell biology, or equivalent. The University of Southern California Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to play a major role in key research areas in human translational research in neuro-oncology. This is a temporary and fixed-term position based at Health Sciences Campus of USC and hospitals affiliated with USC. The postdoctoral fellow can expect to:Utilize professional, specialized expertise to Investigates mechanism of brain tumor state and identifies new methods to target the state of brain tumors as a therapeutic strategy. This involves the utilization of research equipment deployed in the neurology intensive care unit.
Analyze and report research findings in written form in research papers or scientific posters, and manuscripts to be submitted into peer-review journals indexed in medical and life sciences databases. The position involves management and analysis of study data, creating manuscripts for publication, and contributing to research grant proposal development. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with the research team, doctoral students, and undergraduate students.

serving as a research trainee to enhance and develop research related to health equity and suicide prevention; managing primary data collection, data cleaning, database organization, and quantitative and qualitative analyses; leading abstract and manuscript development and management for first-author publication opportunities; contributing to competitive research grant proposal development and submission; developing and implementing research results dissemination strategies; developing mentoring skills by working with undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students learning research processes and skills; participating in team meetings.

The annual rate range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000. CANDLE is a center of the USC Rossier School of Education housed at the Brain and Creativity Institute. CANDLE’s mission is to bring educational innovation and developmental affective neuroscience into partnership, and to use what is learned to guide the transformation of schools, policy, and the student and teacher experience for a healthier and more equitable society.

The position will involve working on CANDLE’s transdisciplinary research studies relating how students and teachers think and feel to their brain function and development, physiological regulation, health and well-being. The successful candidate will be involved in designing, conducting, and analyzing data from synergistic field and laboratory studies about teaching and learning. Studies may include psychophysiological, neural, interview and classroom observation data during authentic learning and teaching activities. The position will also involve preparing reports for funding agencies, and publications and conference presentations to communicate project findings, and mentoring diverse junior members of the research team.


An earned doctoral degree in neuroscience, psychology, education or related fields is required, as is a developing record of relevant publications. The successful candidate should have excellent statistical and programming skills, extensive experience and excellent knowledge of structural and fMRI experiment design, data acquisition and analysis. Expertise in graph theory, dynamic functional connectivity, and other techniques for analyzing brain network properties is especially desired, as is experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Experience working with adolescents and in schools is an added plus.

A postdoctoral research position in cancer and genetic epidemiology is available at the USC Center for Genetic Epidemiology within the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at USC. Chris Haiman and David Conti on analyzing risk factors, genetic and other omics data from diverse cohorts including the Multiethnic Cohort study, the RESPOND African American prostate cancer study and other large-scale genetics consortia (e.g. NHGRI PAGE and PRIMED.
