Primary Purpose: 

The Prager Group (www.pragerlab.ca) in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our research team studying applied aspects of plant virology in pulse crops.

Nature of Work: 

With an emphasis on Pea seedborne mosaic virus, the chosen candidate will head a research to investigate the frequency, symptomology, and population genetic variation of plant pathogenic viruses in Saskatchewan pulse crops. Saskatchewan is a key producer of pulse crops such as lentils, faba beans, chickpeas, and peas, and both viruses and aphid vectors are threatening productivity. The candidate will be encouraged to pursue their own related interests in addition to the allocated work.

Duties: 

The successful candidate will perform research, prepare publications and reports, and contribute to mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.


Required Education: 

PhD. in entomology, virology, plant pathology or related discipline.


Experience: 

Experience with insect vectors of plant viruses, experience maintaining aphid colonies, experience with plant virology, including techniques such as viral propagation, evidence of strong technical writing ability, including first-authored peer-reviewed publications, ability to plan, coordinate, and execute research activities, and a track-record of research achievement.


Skills: 

Molecular biology skills including qPCR, RT-PCR, sequencing, primer design, and analysis of molecular and sequence data.
