1. Postdoctoral Research Associate - Mass Incarceration

Full-time, 2023–25 academic year, begin work July 2023

Position Summary

The Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame is seeking a full-time, 2 year postdoctoral research scholar whose work focuses on mass incarceration broadly conceived. We seek an energetic and collegial interlocutor with a Ph.D. either in the humanities or social sciences and a track record of interdisciplinary and translational work on mass incarceration to join our vibrant community. The position would teach one course and collaborate to develop an interdisciplinary research agenda to support the Notre Dame Programs for Education in Prison.


Responsibilities include: Strengthen the center’s research capacity and grant profile in mass incarceration;
Teach one course each year on mass incarceration for undergraduates;
Be an active and engaged member of the center community.

Requirements: Strong research, writing and communication skills
Experience with funded research and grants
Experience with project development and working with teams
Ph.D. in relevant field (ideally 1–2 years post Ph.D.) in humanities or social sciences
Teaching experience preferred

Job Title Postdoctoral Research Scholar - Global Engagement with Social Concerns and Community
Job Description
The Center for Social Concerns and the Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion at
the University of Notre Dame have an opening for a postdoc position. While the field or
discipline is open, applicants’ scholarship must have an international dimension and relate to
religion and social concerns in some way. The postdoc will have ample time to advance their
own research interests in a vibrant academic community.


Additionally, we expect the postdoc to manage a weeklong visit by a guest scholar in the spring,
to participate in programs that are jointly supported by the two institutes, and to design and
teach one class in their area of expertise. The position is open to US citizens and international
applicants.
Minimum Qualifications

Strong research, writing and communication skills.
Experience with funded research and grants.
Experience with project development and working with teams.
PhD in relevant field (ideally 1-2 years post PhD), in humanities or social sciences.


Preferred Qualifications Teaching experience preferred.
