Summary of Duties:

The postdoctoral position, in the Harper lab at WSU-IAREC, is focused on the study of systemically infecting virus and virus-like pathogens affecting tree fruit in the Pacific Northwest. The incumbent will be expected to carry out a combination of field, greenhouse, and lab-based studies to understand pathogenicity of Little cherry virus-2 and the X-disease phytoplasma affecting stonefruit in the Pacific Northwest, so experience in plant host interactions, and testing putative effectors is a plus. Additional research duties will be assigned at the discretion of the PI. The incumbent is expected to interact with growers, stakeholders, and other industry groups, to attend and present their research at meetings and conferences, and to publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals. They will be part of the larger little cherry disease response taskforce Northwest, and are expected to interact and assist other team members in a professional and courteous manner.

Required Qualifications: PhD in Plant Pathology or a related field.

Summary of Duties:

Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will work towards greater inclusion of lentils into wheat-based foods. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will apply techniques such as protein isolation and functionality testing, genome-wide association mapping, metabolic pathway analysis, and end-use quality testing. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will analyze results, publish research, and leverage research findings into further funding.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Isolate protein from lentil accessions

  • Characterize protein isolates for functionality

  • Identify lentil accessions of particular interest

  • Identify the genes of interest associated with different protein isolate quality traits and markers linked to these genes for future marker assisted selection

  • Select protein isolates to blend with wheat flour and perform flour, rheology, and dough tests on the blends

  • Study the biochemical pathway underlying the genes of interest

  • Upload genotypic and phenotypic data associated with each lentil accession into the GrinGlobal database for users to use in deciding what accessions to request

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D in Genetics, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, or Agronomy or related field.

  • Familiarity with R.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with lentils and wheat.

  • Experience in plant genetics, specifically genome-wide association studies and DNA marker design

  • Understanding of food end-use quality

  • Experience in seed physiology

Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine and Department of Translational Medicine & Physiology at Washington State University (WSU) are accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellow to perform research related to circadian clock, cancer, and aging using cellular and animal models. The ideal candidates should be able to perform high-quality, cutting-edge, and independent research. Candidates are expected to lead his/her projects and be adept at working closely with the principal investigator.

Current projects in the lab include:

(1) Understanding the biological mechanisms of circadian physiology and behaviors;

(2) Investigating the molecular and cellular impact of circadian disruptions on tumor heterogeneity, tumor microenvironment, and metastatic progression;

(3) Translational applications of circadian physiology for the treatment of cancer and aging-related pathologies using nutritional, metabolic, pharmacological interventions.


Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will have the opportunity to be a part of The Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience.

The primary duties of this position will be to define research problems, approaches or hypothesis, and methodology, design specific phases of research projects, carry out complex analyses (qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods), analyze results, develop conclusions and hypotheses, and/or present research findings in publishable form.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the coordination of ongoing research projects.
  • Publishing key results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assisting the PI, as well as other collaborating investigators, with scientific development, data analyses, and grant writing, as needed.
  • Applying for extramural research funding. 
  • Taking appropriate steps towards becoming an independent investigator/faculty member.
  • Participating in didactic training opportunities offered at WSU.
  • May perform other duties as required.

The position will be an initial one-year (1 year) appointment with opportunity for renewal contingent upon performance, mutual acceptance and available funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

60% Research

  • Assist in the coordination of ongoing research projects.
  • Prepare articles for publication.
  • Assist in developing posters and presentations for disseminating study findings.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports.
  • Assist the PI, as well as other collaborating investigators, with scientific development, data analyses, and grant writing.

  • Gather and input study data into database systems. Ensure accuracy in the recording of all data and work with research sites to ensure data integrity.
  • Review and assess study data to ensure adherence to study protocol. Collaborate with PI if protocols are not being met.

15% Professional Development

  • Participate in didactic training opportunities at WSU.

Required Qualifications:

An earned terminal degree in an appropriate field and relevant experience.

Additional Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in molecular & cell biology, pharmacology, biochemistry immunology, oncology, neuroscience, medicine or any related field.
  • Experience authoring professional presentations or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and manuscripts.

  • Experience in the fleld of molecular and cellular biology (e.g. CRISPR-genome editing, Molecular cloning with SnapGene program, WB/IP/ChIP analysis, Confocal and fluorescence microscopy, FACs analysis), cancer biology (e.g. 3D tumor spheroid cultures, tumor xenograft, tumor immunology, Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database analysis), aging biology (e.g. senescence and autophagy, longevity analysis), bioinformatics analysis (e.g. Transcriptomics/proteomics/metabolomics/epigenomics analysis, Genome-wide association (GWA) analyses), and epigenetic regulation (DNA/Histone modifications).
  • Experience and/or interest in circadian clock and sleep research
  • Excellent scientific writing and oral expression skills.
  • Experience analyzing scientific data using R, Stata, SPSS, NVivo, or Atlas.ti.
  • Experience managing research studies.

Summary of Duties:

The College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences at Washington State University seeks a post-doctoral researcher to study plant parasitic nematodes. This position is in the Department of Plant Pathology. The position will involve studying races of the Columbia root-knot nematode and plant immune responses to nematode infections at the molecular level, with a focus on novel M. chitwoodi effectors. Position responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following: 1) Assist in planning and performing nematode bioassays in potatoes, tomatoes and Arabidopsis; 2) Conduct greenhouse and laboratory research on plants infected with root-knot nematodes under different plant growing conditions; 4) Evaluate gene expression analyses and confidently perform other molecular assays with nematodes and plants; 5) Tabulate, collate, summarize, and analyze data and maintain records; and 6) Prepare verbal and written reports of results to supervisor for review and use.  


  


Required Qualifications:

A PhD in plant pathology, plant science, or a related discipline.

  • Prior experience in molecular laboratory research in plants or nematodes

  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

  • A proven ability to work independently and to work in teams

  • A demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of computer programs, including R or related programs for transcriptome and genome analyses.

Position Details:

Summary of Duties:
The Peixoto Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral fellow to conduct research into the role of sleep on transcriptional and chromatin regulation across development in vivo. The Postdoctoral fellow will join a diverse group of neuroscientists and sleep biologists at the department of Translational Medicine and Physiology and the Sleep and Performance Research Center at Washington State University. This is an NIH funded position focused on the use of cutting-edge techniques, including single cell transcriptomics/multiomics and proteomics.

They will be involved in ongoing research in a variety of vertebrate models and will lead independent research projects. More specifically, the Postdoctoral fellow will: plan and conduct sleep/circadian experiments in vivo, conduct single-cell/single-nuclear sequencing experiments, develop and run bioinformatic pipelines, validate results experimentally and prepare the results for dissemination via peer-reviewed scientific articles and presentations at scientific meetings.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

75% Research

  • Plan and conduct experiments and related research directed toward ultimate publication, prepare articles for publication. Participate in grant writing efforts, including seeking self-funding. Work with graduate and/or undergraduate research assistants in conducting research projects.


20% Presenting Data/Publications

  • Analyze, interpret, and disseminate findings through peer-reviewed scientific publications (first or corresponding author) and/or via conference oral and/or poster communications.


5% Service-Other

  • Evaluate scientific papers and publications, provide training to junior laboratory staff where applicable. Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An earned PhD in Neuroscience, Genomics, Computational Biology, or other related discipline.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will utilize diverse methods and procedures to work with rats in two independent projects in the McLaughlin Lab. The first project investigates how endocannabinoid signaling in the lateral habenula impacts behavioral flexibility under conditions of chronic stress. The second project explores behavioral and biological predictors of cannabis-seeking behavior, as well as developmental effects of cannabis exposure using a novel translational model of cannabis vapor self-administration in rodents. The department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience is housed in an award-winning, modern BSL-2 research facility on the Pullman campus of Washington State University, it is equipped with state-of-the-art microscopy, imaging, electrophysiology, cell biology, and behavioral testing equipment.  Pullman is a college town located in the heart of the Palouse, on the Southeast border of Washington State, with easy access to outdoor recreation.  It has received accolades for high quality of life, healthy community, safety, and green transportation.

Annual Salary: $54,835-$57,846 Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience or a related field.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.

  • A demonstrated record of accomplishments, and less than 5 years of research experience since receipt of the doctoral degree.

Other:

Salary will be commensurate with experience.  WSU provides health care packages to its trainees. Background check is required for this position.
