The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work on the statistical and genetic epidemiological aspects of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), as part of a multidisciplinary AD research team, led by Dr. Zuchner. This team of investigators is comprised of molecular geneticists, neurologists, bioinformaticians, and statistical and genetic epidemiologists who work together on studies related to rare neurological diseases. The qualified candidate will work on research directed towards identifying genes and the mechanisms that they influence to increase the risk and outcomes associated with rare neurological diseases. The candidate will gain experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis in families and unrelated individuals from multi-ethnic populations.

Dr. Glen N Barber in the Department of Cell biology a leading research laboratory in the field of Viral Oncolysis has received NCI funding for the development of a novel vaccine to prevent and possibly treat Human T cell leukemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) associated diseases. HTLV-1 is a human retrovirus that is the causative agent of a malignant T CD4+ cell lymphoproliferation referred to as Adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), as well as several inflammatory disorders with the most problematic being human myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). Dr. Glen N Barber has a current position open for an enthusiastic, self-motivated POSTDOCTORAL fellow to pursue this five-year project. This individual will be responsible for performing a wide variety of experiments related to viral oncolytic therapies. Will be manipulating and producing all the proposed Recombinant VSV vaccines proposed in this study. Will test all the vaccination regimens, T-cell Proliferation assays and Antibody neutralization experiments using a variety of mouse models.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Strong experience with cell culture, and Molecular Biology techniques such as DNA and RNA purification, cloning, qPCR, Western Blot, immuno-precipitation, post-translational regulation, cell signaling is required.
Strong experience in T-cells assays (CTL), ELISA, cancer models and immunotherapy. Immunohistochemistry knowledge and Flow Cytometry is desired.
Experience with Recombinant Viral Vaccines and neutralizing Antibody Assays is required.
Ability to perform in vivo experiments using murine models: breeding of Mouse strains, bleeding and vaccine injections technique proficiency required.
Previous experience with animal experiments: syngeneic Mouse Models development. Strong knowledge of immunology is required; cell biology preferred.
The candidate will need to be able to convey information effectively, to work independently, and to follow verbal and written instructions. Strong analytical skills. Individual must possess advanced knowledge and be capable of exercising considerable latitude for independent judgement, perform non-routine and complex laboratory duties requiring advanced technical skills and proficiency for divisional faculty. Will receive general supervision from the PI of the laboratory. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience may be considered.

The Department of Surgery and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a full time Post-Doctoral Associate position. The incumbent works on tumor immunology project in breast cancer. The Briegel laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor progression and treatment resistance, with a focus on transcriptional/epigenetic regulation of cell lineage plasticity and cancer stem cell formation. We use transcriptomic, genomic, and proteomic approaches in combination with patient-derived cell culture and mouse in vivo models of breast cancer.
The postdoctoral candidate will perform independent research examining the crosstalk between cancer stem cells and the immune system, tumor immune evasion, and innate immunity. The candidate will have access to several platforms working with breast cancer patient-derived models and genetic mouse models, including Hyperion imaging cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing and other spatial multiplex analysis platforms, microscope-imaging systems to perform functional screens.
