Moore Postdoctoral Fellowship in Quantum Materials Theory

The Condensed Matter Theory group at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for the Moore Postdoctoral Fellowship in Quantum Materials Theory, beginning in Fall 2023.

This postdoctoral program is part of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Emergent Phenomena in Quantum Systems initiative (EPiQS).

The Moore Postdoctoral Fellowship has a three-year duration, conditional upon reasonable performance, offers freedom in choosing research direction, independence, and possibility to work with multiple faculty members.

The selected candidate should have completed their Ph.D. degree by the time they start their assignment, should show outstanding research in theoretical condensed matter physics commensurate with the level of the position, and an ability to identify and pursue research problems independently while working well in an interactive and dynamic setting.

2. DIVISION OF GEOLOGICAL AND PLANETARY SCIENCES

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Comparative Planetary Evolution

The Caltech Center for Comparative Planetary Evolution (3CPE) at the California Institute of Technology solicits applications for a postdoctoral prize fellowship associated with the center. This fellowship will be awarded to an outstanding applicant pursuing research in any area related to planetary science, either within the solar system or beyond, using observational, theoretical, or computational techniques. The 3CPE provides a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment for researchers at Caltech with common interests spanning both astronomy and planetary science. Fellows will also have full access to Caltech's extensive resources, including the Keck and Palomar Observatories and computational facilities.

The Fellowship will commence in the fall of 2023 with an annual stipend of $74,000, a yearly research fund of $15,000 per year in direct costs, and up to $1,500 for relocation. Fellows are eligible to participate in Caltech’s benefit programs, including health and dental programs.

Applicants for the position must have a PhD in planetary science, astronomy, physics, astrophysics, geology, or an equivalent field by the date of their appointment. Applicants must also be within four years of receiving their PhD (PhD awarded after January 1, 2019). Applicants should submit a CV, list of publications, a statement describing their current and proposed research (4 page single spaced, 12 pt. font, not including figures and references), and three letters of recommendation by January 1, 2023. Postdoctoral Instructor in Visual Culture

The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for a two-year position as a Postdoctoral Instructor in Visual Culture, beginning Fall 2023. Area of Specialization: We seek candidates whose research addresses the roles that race and racialization play in visual cultures, with preference for scholarship focused on Asian-American culture and identity. We welcome applications from scholars trained in Art History, Architectural History, Cinema and Media Studies, Critical Race Studies, English, Ethnic Studies, History, or related fields. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two (ten-week) undergraduate courses in the first year of appointment and three in the second. The appointment is contingent upon completion of the Ph.D.

The Division of Biology and Biological Engineering (BBE) at Caltech is seeking new faculty in all areas of biological science and biological engineering, with particular interest in individuals who are pursuing research that would benefit from and add to the interdisciplinary environment of Caltech's BBE division and its linkages to other disciplines at Caltech. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to (alphabetically): biological engineering; cellular, developmental and regulatory biology; ecological and biosphere science and engineering; neural and behavioral biology; organismal and integrative biology; and virology, immunology and infectious disease.

Successful applicants are expected to develop innovative research programs and to be committed to high quality teaching. Preference will be given to candidates at the Assistant Professor level; however, well-qualified applicants at the associate or full professor level may also be considered.

The term of an initial untenured appointment is normally four years and is contingent upon completion of the Ph.D. degree. Reappointment beyond the initial term is contingent upon successful review conducted prior to the commencement of the fourth year.

The Division of Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position in experimental or theoretical physics. We have particular strategic needs in high-energy experiment, AMO experiment, and biophysics, but are conducting a broad search spanning all areas of physics. We are seeking highly qualified candidates with a Ph.D. in physics or a related field who are committed to a career in research, mentorship, and teaching.
