To develop a transformative coating strategy to prevent corrosion of metals at the macroscopic scale using heterocyclic carbenes. 



Position Summary:

  • develop skills in corrosion, material characterization, electrochemical microscopy

Part I of the project consists of purifying and determining the structure of new antibacterial produced by arctic bacteria, and Part II consists of studying bacterial itaconate degradation.


Position Summary:
The selected candidate will work with use analytical techniques for Project 1 and will work with enzymes for project 2.  

The selected candidate will be exposed to NMR structure elucidation and to new families of enzymes.

Work on a project entitled ‘Characteri­zation, Modelling and Al-Monitoring of Additive-Subtractive Manufacturing of Biomedical and Aerospace Components’.  This project aims at characterizing, optimizing, and controlling the ASM process to improve and control the quality of manufactured parts. Experimental investigation of the effect of the parameters of the additive and subtractive process on the final part quality attributes will be carried out. Advanced sustainable cooling strategies will be explored to prolong the subtractive cutting tool life. Multi-scale thermo-mechanical and melting pool prediction numerical models will be developed and experimentally validated to predict, pre-compensate the part distortion and residual stresses.
