The Opportunity


We are looking for a Process Control Engineer/Advisor who possesses strong technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills to join our Control Systems team to aid with production optimization and technological advancement projects.


Rio Tinto Minerals operates globally providing iron ore concentrate and pellets to world markets. Recognised as a leader in the industrial minerals industry due to product quality, supply reliability and technical support; we are proud to make modern life work. From our location in eastern Canada IOC supplies iron ore concentrate and pellets to the world’s steel producing market.

What the role entails


This role is a great opportunity to contribute to the organization’s safety and profitability while developing as a technical expert. Reporting to the Senior Advisor Process Control you will:

Support the health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) programs by participating in their implementation, maintenance and enforcement as well as compliance with corporate programs and policies

Utilize problem solving techniques, project management tools, and soft skills to facilitate working sessions with colleagues.

Provide DCS and process controls engineering support for ongoing and new projects

Assist areas with daily troubleshooting and provide analysis of available process data

Develop control strategies to optimize equipment capabilities and plant production

Monitor Process control loops and optimize tuning parameters

Develop and maintain a high level of technical and functional knowledge of logic solvers and field instrumentation

Maintain effective communication and coordination with management, area supervisors and operator technicians

Solve problems of great complexity related to own sector of activity, taking into account the global business context

What you will need for this role


To succeed in this role, you will have:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer/Control/Chemical/Process/Electrical Engineering or equivalent

At least 2-3 years of experience in an industrial environment.

Strong systems/software/technology skills

Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills including field experience

Strong data analysis and interpretation skills

Ability to interact effectively with operations personnel at all levels

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently with little direction

Language: English is required \ French is considered an asset

Experience developing process control strategies and control loop tuning and monitoring

PLC and/or DCS programming experience

HMI programing experience

Familiarity with Pi data management system

Experience with MATLAB

Bilingual

The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is a leading Canadian producer of iron ore concentrate and iron ore pellets that serves customers worldwide. The company operates a mine, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities in Sept-ÃŽles, Quebec. It also operates a 418 kilometer railroad that links the mine to the port.
